About

Hi, thanks for stopping by. We really appreciate all your support! Here is a bit about us:
In 2001, students from the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at Imperial College London started the El Salvador Project with the aim of offering relief to El Salvador, which had just suffered the consequences of a devastating earthquake. Every year, this student run organisation fundraises and travels to El Salvador, where the team helps rural communities. From building earthquake resisting houses, the project has moved on to improving sanitation in rural areas of the country. According to the World Health Organization, “inadequate sanitation is a major cause of disease world-wide and improving sanitation is known to have a significant beneficial impact on health both in households and across communities.” El Salvador is one of the poorest countries in the world and thus suffers from lack of sanitation. The fundraising process is very important to the project as the materials to build sanitation systems must be paid for. The materials, as well as the workforce, are all local in order to stimulate El Salvador’s microeconomy. All of the money obtained from fundraising will go directly to the project’s aim. With your help, the team will be able to travel to El Salvador and build over 16 sanitation systems for numerous families. The team will also be able to educate rural communities on the importance of sanitation, how to build a sanitation system without causing further problems, especially water resource pollution, and how to look after their sanitation systems to get the most out of them. Fundraising has now finished, but thanks for visiting this page.
