About

This year, I will be mostly running the 2017 Yeovil Half Marathon as...
A SchoolBag
Having been lucky enough to run the last three Yeovil Half Marathon's pushing Evie and Iris around in a buggy, this year I needed a new challenge.  I have always wanted to make a SchoolBag outfit to run in and this is it!
The framework is made from plumbing push-fit piping attached to a modified harness on a rucksack and the red shell is the creative mastery of Wendy, the seamstress from Sherborne.
This March, School in a Bag has reached the milestone of distributiing 75,000 SchoolBags to children in 35 countries.  This is 0.1% of the estimated 75,000,000 children who don't have the opportunity to go to school everyday.  A SchoolBag for these children is absolutely vital - most learn by trying to remember the information so the contents provide all of the essential items to enable them to get a much better education.  An education for these children is their passport to a life out of poverty and hardship.
The aim of the SchoolBag outfit is to raise awareness as i trudge the 13.1 miles around the Yeovil course.  However, if you can help me reach my target of £500 it will fund a further 25 SchoolBags (£20 each) and give 25 children the chance to a brighter future.
Thank you in advance.

Charity
School in a Bag - School in a Bag is an initiative of the Piers Simon Appeal delivering rucksacks full of stationery and eating utensils to poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster-affected children around the world. So far over 60,000 SchoolBags have been distributed in 32 countries.

School in a Bag is a simple solution, enabling a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and above all learn. Over one fifth of the world's child population are deprived of an opportunity to learn at school but receiving a SchoolBag gives them a lifeline to a future out of hardship and poverty.

A SchoolBag costs just £15 and every donor can track where in the world their SchoolBag has gone via the School in a Bag website: www.schoolinabag.org
