Former Royal Marine Commandos Louis Nethercott and Anthony Lambert are settting out to make history on a world first expedition the likes of which has never been accomplished before. Using the skills and discipline provided to them through their diverse military careers they are setting out to be the first humans to traverse the planets 5 largest islands (Borneo, Papua New Guinea, Madagascar, Greenland and Baffin Island) unsupported, using only human power. Expedition 5.
The team will be contending with a huge spectrum of harsh and unforgiveable environments; From equatorial jungles to monumental mountain ranges, desert plains to arctic tundra. Due to the unique and varied nature of this challenge their bodies will be pushed beyond endurance, not only will the Expedition 5 team need to be in the highest physical condition possible, they will need every ounce of their determination and will power in order to complete this remarkable undertaking.
Both Louis and Ant have active front line experience from their time serving in Afghanistan. They both feel that the challenges posed by Expedition 5 are insignificant compared to the daily challenges faced by many of their former colleagues wounded in the service of their country.
For this reason they are using Expedition 5 to raise funds for Help For Heroes and The Royal Marines Charity, and in particular to raise awareness for the mental health issues affecting serving and former serving personnel; for Louis and Anthony this is cause particularly close to their hearts.

Help for Heroes - Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007. Bryn and Emma met some extraordinarily brave young people who had been badly wounded and they just wanted to do something to help. "It’s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."
The Royal Marines Charity - Royal Marines have always been the first to understand, first to adapt and respond and the first to overcome, that’s the Commando Mindset but today Royal Marines and their families are fighting battles they cannot win alone. The Commando Mindset isn’t always enough, with your help the Royal Marines Family will win their battles. We are the Royal Marines’ own Charity and are uniquely placed to understand, respond and react, enabling Royal Marines and their families to overcome their challenges including life changing injury, life limiting illness, mental disability, transition to civilian life and even poverty.
